Varsity Lakes race a great success and much appreciated by all

Tegan Fraser leads Shaun Sewell

Sunday 22 March was the first race of the 2015 VADJA Northern Marathon Series. Of the 150 competitors taking to the water at Varsity Lakes, it was a woman who took line honours. Tegan Fraser, a well know Australian Marathon Team representative many times over the years impressed everyone with her surge to the finish to take the win. Tegan was pushed all the way by 17 year old Shaun Sewell, who finished less than a second behind Tegan.

It was nice to see a balance of all different ages, from all different clubs in a range of kayaks and skis competing in all the three distances on offer. There was even a 2 person Canadian canoe which was paddled by Bob and Christine from Bonville Creek Kayak Club!!!! Best of all the weather was kind, and there wasn’t a drop of the predicted rain. Well done to everyone who took part today. A BIG thankyou to Varsity Lakes Paddlers Club who hosted the event and most importantly to all the volunteers who made the day run smoothly and safe for everyone. See you all at race #2, Bonville Creek, Coffs Harbour 26th April 2015.

The organisation of race was much appreciated by all. A member of Brisbane Canoeing Club commented, “It was a great event well run by Varsity. How they provide a race certificate for every competitor I will never know. We really enjoyed it. Friendly people and hard racing for all abilities.”
